Meet Your Hosts
Joan and Dan Mills, lifelong Mainers, have owned the Chiltern Inn since 2004. Born in neighboring Hancock, Joan worked as a nurse, kindergarten teacher, and school superintendent before embarking on her lifelong dream of opening Bar Harbor’s most sumptuous bed and breakfast. Dan, a former high school principal, English teacher, and award-winning drama coach, loves hiking, sailing, and making music.
Together, they raised five sons who share their deep passion for good food, inspiring art, and the beauties of the natural world.
Joan and Dan will be happy to share their lifetime of expertise, pointing you toward the best secret coves and secluded hiking that Acadia National Park has to offer. Borrow their trail map, consult their bird and flower guides, and don’t forget to ask for restaurant recommendations.
